This time, Cink finishes the job; Sluman wins

Stewart Cink had a reputation as a good golfer who just couldn't finish off a tournament.

His collapse during the fourth round of the PODS Championship in March left him with just 1 victory in the nine career events where he had the lead going into the last day.

On Sunday, he put that behind him, holding off a late charges from Tommy Armour III and defending champion Hunter Mahan to win the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., by a stroke.

Cink shot a 3-under 67 -- following rounds of 66, 64 and 65 -- to finish at 18 under for his fifth career victory and first since 2004. Armour (65) and Mahan (65) tied for second. Wheaton's Kevin Streelman (70) finished in a tie for 10th, 6 strokes off the lead. He made $150,000.

Cink earned his first career win here as a rookie, and came into the day with a 2-stroke lead over Heath Slocum.

"I know there has been some talk that I have not been a closer," said Cink, who already had six top-10 finished coming into this tournament. "They had every right to say that, because I felt the same way myself. So I felt that I had something to prove to myself."

Leading by a stroke, Cink hit a 365-yard tee shot on the 18th into the crowd to the right, and his approach went just over the green. But he recovered nicely, getting up and down from just under 2 feet to save par.

"To stand over that last putt, even though it was only 2 feet long, and to knock it in the middle, it was a great feeling," he said.

Bank of America Championship: When Jeff Sluman rolled in a 34-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th hole Sunday to wrap up the Champions Tour's Bank of America Championship in Concord, Mass., with an 8-under 64, runner-up Loren Roberts bowed to the winner and waved his arms up and down.

Quite a gesture from the man known as the "Boss of the Moss" for his putting prowess.

"I hope it happens a few more times," Sluman said after his 3 birdies on the last four holes gave him a 17-under 199 total and a 2-shot victory over Roberts (67). The 64 was best final round by a winner on the tour this year.

Sluman's last win was at the Greater Milwaukee Open on the PGA Tour in June 2002.

Wegmans LPGA: Eun-Hee Ji got her first win on the LPGA Tour with a come-from-behind, 2-stroke victory over Suzann Pettersen at the Wegmans LPGA in Rochester, N.Y.

The South Korean shot a 5-under 67 to finish at 16-under 272 at the tricky Locust Hill course. A 22-year-old in her second year on the tour, Ji had a previous best finish of second to Pettersen in South Korea in October in the Kolon Championship.

"I'm like a fly in the sky," Ji said through a translator. "I cannot describe what I feel right now. Last year, Suzann beat me and today I beat Suzann, so now I have a confidence. ... If all the tournaments are like today, I could probably win more."

BMW International Open: Martin Kaymer birdied the first playoff hole against Anders Hansen after blowing a 6-stroke lead and won the BMW International Open in Munich, Germany. The 23-year-old Kaymer became the youngest and first German winner despite his 3-over 75, finishing at 15-under 273. Hansen (67) birdied five of his last 11 holes.

Kaymer had a triple-bogey on the 11th hole but birdied the 18th to force a playoff. He won with a 200-yard approach shot that bounced within six feet of the cup.

"I didn't want to lose here, this win was for my mother," said Kraymer, whose mother has a serious illness. "After the 13th or 14th hole, I just kept fighting."
