Knows value of pet program first-hand
To the editor: I just finished reading the Neighborhood section of today's Herald on May 28th and was pleased to see you article about the "therapy pets" at Northwest Community Hospital.
Our 9-year-old grandson (Andrew Montonera) was a patient for several days last November when a little white dog poked its head around the corner of his room and gently jumped up in bed with Andrew.
Of course the handler was right outside the door but it was such a pleasant interlude and brought a little bit of "normal" life back into the day of a sick little boy.
