Briefs: Services for Huntley leader

Funeral arrangements have been made for Huntley Village Manager Carl Tomaso, who died unexpectedly Wednesday in his Woodstock home. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin-Cooney Funeral Home, 1211N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. Another visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary. Great American Fest on tap

Carpentersville will host its second annual Great American Festival at 3 p.m. today in the courtyard of village hall and in Meadowdale Field, located behind Meadowdale Mall. The event will include food vendors, children's games and family activities. Live music starts at 5 p.m. with fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m. Parking is available behind village hall.

Dog, car wash today

The Senior High Youth of Light of Christ Lutheran Church will hold a Dog and Car Wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at two locations: Light of Christ Church at 100 Hanson Road and Willow Funeral Home on Route 62, east of Hanson Road, both in Algonquin. Proceeds will help support the youth mission trip to Alamosa, Colo. Call (847) 658-9250.

Pingree tunes up Sundays

Village gets funding boost

State Rep. Ruth Munson, an Elgin Republican, said she has secured more than $87,000 in state funding for several Carpentersville public safety initiatives. The funding includes enhancing youth-based programs and a street-lighting program in high-crime areas. The village and other organizations will receive $40,000 for street lighting, $32,000 to the village's police department for gang prevention and intervention programs as well as $15,000 to the Dundee Township Boys and Girls Club for the Perry Elementary School after-school program.
