Kirk represents Big Oil, not us
Prices at the pump are soaring, while oil company profits are escalating at astronomical rates. And what is Republican Mark Kirk's supposed solution? Three words: gas tax moratorium.ˆ
Recently, Kirk stated to a staffer, "With gas prices rising to nearly $4 per gallon, I believe we can lower the price by up to 77 cents a gallon with a tax moratorium." Yes, by eliminating the gas tax from its total cost, gas will be cheaper (briefly), but at what cost? Much of the money from gas taxes goes into funding schools, roads and infrastructure. So Kirk's "solution" to high gas prices is to no longer invest in our public institutions? Why not require oil companies to invest some of their profits into researching alternative energy sources? Or require automobile companies to build more fuel efficient cars?
Kirk voted to give Big Oil billions in tax breaks in the 2005 energy bill, and he has taken $43,000 from these companies for his campaign. We need a Congressman who will represent us in Washington, not Big Oil. We need a change from the same old excuses, which is why I'll be voting for Dan Seals in November.
