Briefs: St. Charles blood drive

A blood drive is planned for 9 a.m. to noon today at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 101 S. Sixth Ave. Donors will receive a free quart of ice cream. Walk-ins are welcome. Call (630) 584-8638.

Culvert work to close road

Corron Road between Bowes and McDonald roads west of South Elgin will be closed starting Monday through mid- to late-August. Crews will replace culverts on the street and traffic will be detoured. For more information, call (630) 208œ3138.

Gun threat reported

Two Aurora boys, ages 13 and 15, told police that two men pointed a handgun at them about 1:30 p.m. Thursday as they and a group of their friends were in a driveway in the 400 block of Weston Avenue. The men did not fire the handgun and no one was injured. The suspects were driving a light blue, Buick Regal at the time of the incident.

New athletic director hired

The West Chicago High School District 94 school board has hired Douglas Mullaney as its athletic director. Mullaney most recently worked as a teacher at Bryan Middle School in Elmhurst, where he served as the school's physical education chairman. He has coached several sports in both the high school and college level. As head baseball coach at York High School, Mullaney lead his team to the Illinois state title in 1993. Mullaney will begin working at West Chicago High School Tuesday.
