No injuries in Mt. Prospect house fire
Smoke and water damage were the result of a morning house fire in Mount Prospect Monday.
No one was injured in the fire, though the house at 802 Elmhurst Road, at the corner of Lonnquist Boulevard, sustained significant damage in the roof and attic and was left uninhabitable.
Mount Prospect Deputy Fire Chief John Malcolm said the fire broke out about 10 a.m. and was under control in less than 20 minutes.
"We were able to get there right away and get inside," he said.
Plumbers working inside the single-story home accidentally started the fire. Malcolm said they were soldering when some insulation caught on fire and spread to the attic and roof.
Malcolm said neither the homeowner nor her daughter was home.
Damage was estimated at $100,000, he said.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Township assisted in putting out the blaze.
