Briefs: Charity hockey game in Bensenville
The Chicago Blackhawk Alumni will face off against the Chicago Steel at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 13, during a charity match at Edge Ice Arena, 735 E. Jefferson St., Bensenville. tickets begin at $10 and proceeds will benefit Blackhawk Alumni Charities, which provides scholarships, and Shriners Hospitals for Children. At 3 p.m. before the game, the Steel will host Give Hockey a Try Day, which allows children to learn the game from Steel players and coaches. Children will be provided a helmet and skates and a free stick. From 5 to 6 p.m., Blackhawks Alumni members will meet and take pictures with fans. The event will also feature a silent auction and a chance to skate with the Chicago Steel after the game. For details, call (630) 594-1165.
Jaycees assist flood victims
The Naperville Jaycees collected $2,620 for the Cedar Rapids Salvation Army during the Labor Day parade. The money will be used to assist flood victims in Iowa. The Jaycees bucket shakers have raised over $4,000 in the past two years.
Central needs sponsors
The Naperville Central Booster Club is looking for sponsors for its Relay for Redhawks fundraiser this fall that will support the school's athletic programs as well as a newly created fund that will help athletes in need. The fund is named after named after Rick Jeffers, a Central parent and active Booster Club member who died in March after battling colon cancer. Relay for Redhawks will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Central, 440 W.
