Best & brightest

Patricia M. Conrad of Schaumburg, was placed on the dean's list for the second semester at Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington.

Ashley French, daughter of Jim and Vickie French of Palatine, was awarded an additional $10,000 Deans Engineering Scholarship toward the completion of her final year at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Ashley has spent the last two years alternating semesters between her studies in biomedical engineering at Marquette and working as a co-op at Baxter Healthcare, Round Lake, and Fenwal, Long Grove, in the blood transfusion therapies department. Over the summer, she will be interning as an engineering consultant for Accenture in Milwaukee, Wis.

Ryan French, a 2008 graduate of Palatine High School, son of Jim and Vickie French of Palatine, was the recipient of a $1,000 VIP Millenium Scholarship, presented during an awards ceremony on May 21, from the Palatine High School Booster Club. He is one of only 40 freshmen selected to be admitted this fall into the bachelor of science automotive technology program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Nicholas Galiardo, son of Juli and Ron Tragasz of Palatine, graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a bachelor of science degree in economics and finance. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma; the Golden Key International Honor Society at the University of Illinois; Kappa Beta Delta; and the International High IQ Society. He was also named in the National Deans List and the Chancellors List as well as the dean's list at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Rebecca Geyer of Barrington, daughter of Nancy Geyer of Barrington, received a bachelor of science degree in sport management from Quincy University, Quincy, Ill., on May 18.

Scott Humphries, son of Donn and Debbie Humphries of Hoffman Estates received a bachelor of science degree in physical education May 18 from Quincy University, Quincy, Ill.

Phillip T. Makowski, son of David and Linda Makowski, Deer Park, was named to the Ohio Northern University dean's list for the spring quarter 2007-08. He is a sophomore majoring in computer science. The dean's list includes students who attain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 grading system.

On May 3, Sabrina Nevler graduated summa cum laude with university honors from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, with a bachelor's degree in English and a teacher certification in secondary education. She is the daughter of Ross and Carol Nevler of Hawthorn Woods.

Dushyant D. Patel of Schaumburg graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy, earning a doctor of pharmacy degree.

Patel was one of 156 students in the graduating class and will now join nearly 225,000 pharmacists currently working in the United States

Brittany Nicole Redman, daughter of Doreen C. Redman of Palatine, graduated, in three years, from Loyola University, Chicago, on May 9, with a bachelor of psychology degree. She was a 2005 graduate of Palatine High School.

Valparaiso University student Kimberly Sienkiewcz of Hoffman Estates had her artwork featured in an exhibition at Valparaiso University's Brauer Museum of Art. Sienkiewicz presented a series of paintings and a video entitled "Off/On." She is the daughter of Peter and Patricia Sienkiewicz and a senior art major at the university.
