Gurnee joins flood watch as Des Plaines River rises

Add the Des Plaines River to the list of waterways in danger of flooding.

Officials across Northern Illinois and Wisconsin on Thursday continued to monitor area rivers and lakes, and they kept close watch on the sky for potentially heavy rain forecast for overnight Thursday and into today.

If the storms come and produce the predicted 1 to 2 inches of rain, water-weary homeowners will fight the rising water for the third time in less than a year.
