Briefs: Metra parking up 25 cents

For the first time in more than 20 years, the daily parking fee for Cary's Metra commuter parking lot is going up. On Tuesday, the price goes from $1 to $1.25. The extra revenue will help pay for the lot's improvement and future expansion. From now through Monday, you can buy $20 prepaid parking cards from the village.

Fresh produce in Algonquin

Thursdays in Algonquin mean it's time for fresh fruit and vegetables. The Downtown Algonquin Partnership Merchant's Association holds its annual farmers market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and every Thursday through Oct. 2 in the parking lot on South Harrison Street, in the village's Old Town district. Elgin group staffs market

Activate Elgin will staff an educational booth from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market. Activate Elgin is a citywide initiative to engage all sectors of the community to work in harmony providing all residents with opportunities to improve their health, well-being and overall quality of life. The market is held at the civic center parking lot at the corner of East Highland and Douglas, near the post office and city hall.
