Open gym time coming up
No more homework, no more projects, and no more waking up early! At last, summer is almost here and youth can enjoy Hanover Township's summer Open Gym and Fun Program.
Running June 9 through Aug. 15, youth ages 5-18 can attend and participate in an assortment of social, educational and recreational activities. They can also enjoy special events scattered throughout the summer.
Hanover Township Youth and Family Services, in cooperation with School District U-46, Renz Addiction and Counseling Center, Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park and Streamwood, offers the Open Gym program to provide a safe, supervised environment for children and teenagers. Members of the local police departments, volunteers and the Youth and Family Services' staff work together to provide positive role modeling in an enjoyable atmosphere.
This year's Open Gym will feature basketball, dodgeball, soccer, board games, art projects, dance lessons, cooking classes, science experiments, ice cream eating contests and raffles.
The summer schedule for Open Gym is Mondays from 5-8 p.m. (Ages 12-18), Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave, Hanover Park; Tuesdays from 5-9 p.m. (Ages 7-18), Streamwood Park District Community Center, 777 Bartlett Road, Streamwood; Wednesdays from Noon-4 p.m. (Ages 7-14), Bartlett Elementary School, 111 North Ave., Bartlett; Thursdays from 5-9 p.m. (Ages 7-18), Canton Middle School, 1100 Sunset Circle, Streamwood; and Fridays from Noon-4 p.m. (ages 5-14), Lords Park Elementary School, 323 Waverly Dr., Elgin.
