FitRX manager stresses quality products at a good price

If you're speeding by on Randall, you have to look really hard to find FitRX. It's set back off of Randall, a pioneer in Algonquin's new Esplanade development, just south of Algonquin Commons.

But once you find it, manager Roger Wroblewski said, you won't need to look around for anything else. The store specializes in herbs, sports nutrition, vitamins, nutritional supplements, powders, protein bars, health food and even smoothies.

"We're kind of off the beaten path," Wroblewski said. "But we sell the hard to find items, so once people know what we have and our prices for everything, they don't want to go back to the other stores."

The store opened Feb. 11. It is the second FitRX retail store, with the first starting in Roselle nine years ago. The business also started an online store in 1999.

"It kind of all started as an idea to find a more inexpensive route to finding quality items."

The owners are body builders and they wanted to find the best deals to supplement their needs. They knew other people wanted that too, and thought this could really take off.

"We now pass on a great discount to the customer. If you're an athlete it's a lifestyle, and you appreciate this kind of savings." Wroblewski boasts the best prices for all the store sells, saying FitRX doesn't waste money on lots of new uniforms for employees or fancy posters that they'll throw away the next week.

Instead, the business hires professionals who know what they're doing, and helps customers find the right products they need at the best prices, which is what customers appreciate, he said.

For example, Wroblewski has been an herbalist for 14 years, another employee is studying to become a registered dietitian and another raises free range cattle on her land.

"We're not just selling snake oil from the wagon. We really have people who have dedicated their life to us. It's just another thing that separates us from the rest."
