Black Crowes set to play at Naperville's Last Fling

Fans of The Black Crowes waited seven years for a new studio recording but they'll have to wait only four more months to see them live.

The band will bring its rock riffs to Last Fling's Main Stage this summer as the headlining act.

"They're a band I've been trying to get for many years," Naperville Jaycees co-executive director John Wrona said. "They just came out with (their) new album in March so they're touring at this time of year when we have our event. It was just timing."

The Jaycees' annual end-of-summer bash and major fundraiser runs over Labor Day weekend. The four-day fest includes carnival rides, expo booths, a parade, special events and live music.

The Black Crowes will take the stage at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Rotary Hill.

Tickets are $15 but a sale date has not been set. Wrona is hoping for a sell-out show just as the past three have been with Cheap Trick and Collective Soul.

The Black Crowes' latest release, "Warpaint," is its first studio recording in seven years and is a mix of rock, blues, country, soul and gospel. It features such tracks as "Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution," "Oh Josephine," "Locust Street" and "Walk Believer Walk."

"I'm a huge fan of the band to start out with and have been for 18 years now," Wrona said. "Their new album is outstanding."

In a post on the band's Web site, frontman Chris Robinson called the new album "a declaration of our soulful independence."

"If someone hears 'Warpaint' and they like rock 'n' roll music, it's going to mean something to them," he said.
