Face facts: Era of cheap oil is over
Mr. Miller correctly points out (Fence Post, Tuesday) that greed is an important factor driving oil prices up. However, ignorance is a more important factor.
Supply and demand sets the price of oil.
America must wake up to the fact that the age of cheap oil is past.
For decades knowledgeable people have told the nation that this is happening and that we should not depend upon foreign oil for energy.
The USA has used its cheap oil. Cheap oil is gone. New sources are expensive.
Drilling in ANWR is not a long-term answer. If the known 10.4 billion barrels reserve were immediately available, it would only supply our total demand about 17 months.
Instead of diligently developing alternate energy sources, we have continued the love affair with gas-guzzlers and fossil energy.
The dumbest thing we have done is to start burning food for fuel. Take notice of the price of groceries compared to a year ago.
We should be bombarding our representatives in Washington to rescind the Ethanol mandates lest we not have sufficient agriculture land to grow food.
There are answers if we will face facts. It would take more than 300 words to describe all of the promising alternatives to the energy crisis. It will take time to sort out the best solutions. Get used to $4 gas and do not forget that global warming is an inconvenient truth. Also realize that the Bush War is about oil.
