Barbershop-style choreography workshop
On May 13, the Riverside Chorus, a member of Sweet Adelines, International, is hosting a workshop on the development of choreography that can be used while performing barbershop-style songs.
Two professional dance instructors have been invited to demonstrate several songs being worked on during the rehearsal. Cathy Perfetti currently teaches ballet in Cary and LaVergne Tharge teaches tap in Carpentersville.
The titles of the pieces they will choreograph are "Shaking the Blues Away," "The Best of Times" and "That's What Friends Are For."
Refreshments will be served. All ladies interested in learning about barbershop-style singing are welcome to attend.
The group rehearses from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fourth and Main streets, West Dundee. This workshop will begin at 8 p.m. May 13.
Riverside Chorus is open to any female age 13 and older who enjoys singing. The group now has 15 members. The director is Suzie Lewis of Elgin.
Riverside Chorus performs several times a year at community events, attends a barbershop competition in the spring in Grand Rapids, Mich., and produces a show in the fall.
The chorus and/or quartets within the group are available for performances at private parties. The group is partially funded by the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission. For information, call Jane at (847) 428-5241 or visit the Web site at www.riversidechorus.com.
