St. Francis will add boys and girls swimming

St. Francis athletic director Paul Linden said Friday the Wheaton parochial school will add boys and girls swimming for the 2008-09 school year.

Because the school doesn't have a swimming pool, it is trying to find another place to hold practices, and it won't have any home meets.

Kristina Lipskis, a St. Francis math teacher, has been named to coach both the girls team, which will swim in the fall, and the boys team, which swims in the winter season. Lipskis, a 2001 graduate of St. Charles East High School, won three state team championships with the Saints. She also swam at Ohio State University and served as a graduate assistant coach there.

"St. Francis is fortunate to have an individual with the drive, passion and dedication of Kristina Lipskis leading this initial chapter in the history of St. Francis team swimming," Linden said. "Since the first day of our investigation into if swimming was a viable option for expansion, she was an enthusiastic driving force in making this vision a reality."

Actually, St. Francis has had swimming teams in the past, including a fourth-place girls team finish in 1979.
