Cary seeks FEMA grant

It cost Cary thousands of dollars when workers responded to a pair of severe snowstorms Feb. 5 and 6. And officials they hope to get some of that money back in the form of a FEMA grant. The village has applied for a $29,367 grant to help recoup the costs for the snowstorm that the federal government has since declared an emergency. Besides heavy snow, the storm also included freezing temperatures, blowing and drifting snow.

U-46 board elects officers

The Elgin Area School District U-46 board last week elected new officers for the 2008-09 school year. Ken Kaczynski was re-elected as president, Donna Smith as vice president, and Amy Kerber as secretary pro-tempore. U-46 attorney Pat Broncato will continue as board secretary. Chief financial officer John Prince remains board treasurer.

Pancakes for a penny

The Colonial Cafe and Ice Cream, 600 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin will celebrate its 30th anniversary in Elgin next month by serving pancakes for 1 cent each from open to close Tuesday. There's a limit of 30 pancakes per person; butter and syrup are included, and customers may order additional items and toppings at the regular price.
