Barrington residents honored at Arlington
Barrington-area residents looking to get in on the excitement surrounding Big Brown's attempt at horseracing history can do so for free at Arlington Park.
On the same day Big Brown goes for the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes, Arlington Park hosts Barrington Community Appreciation Day.
The day is part of a three-day Barrington community weekend at the track June 6 to 8.
A highlight of the weekend will come June 7, when a race is named for the Barrington community. A trophy presentation that day will also be made by Village President Karen Darch.
In addition, Barrington police and fire and representatives of area charities will be on hand.
Barrington residents and employees of area businesses will be admitted for free when they reserve tickets online at arlingtonpark.com. To get the free tickets, use the coupon code Barrington in the "apply discount" section when purchasing each set of tickets.
The track's Barrington Community Appreciation weekend coincides with the start of ticket sales for the second annual Barrington Concours D'elegance, which moves from Barrington to the racetrack this year and takes place Oct. 5.
Those who purchase the tickets for the car show at Arlington Park will receive $10 off. General admission tickets regularly cost $35 while VIP tickets regularly cost $85.
Arlington Park hosts the community weekends as a way to show its commitment to being a good neighbor.
Besides Barrington, other communities that will be honored at Arlington Park the rest of the summer include Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Buffalo Grove, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Arlington Heights.

Opinions wanted: Several organizations are still looking for your opinions.
First, the Healthier Barrington Project is asking residents to take a survey gauging their feelings about the environment.
Responses will provide information on area residents' perceptions of key environmental issues and steps homeowners are willing to take, or have already taken, to help the environment
The online survey, which takes less than 10 minutes to finish, can be accessed on the UIC-Rockford home page at uirockford.com.
Barrington Area Unit District 220 is also asking residents to complete an online survey.
They are hoping to get a grasp on how residents felt about the process of creating new elementary attendance boundaries in the district.
All District 220 residents are encouraged to visit cusd220.org to participate in the 12-question survey.
The survey will be available through June 8.
