Briefs: Harper alumni honored

A Round Lake Beach man is one of four former Harper College students to be named the school's first annual distinguished alumni list. Dexter Gardner, a 1999 graduate, is a youth pastor at Palatine's Second Baptist Church. He is a former president of Harper's Black Student Union. He coordinates all of his church's youth activities and teaches Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Gardner and fellow distinguished alumni John Rippinger of Schaumburg; John Loprieno of California, and Jaime Quezada of Racine, Wis., will speak at this year's commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Antioch business move

Before Antioch officials will allow Bodycraft to move from its location on Route 173 in Antioch to Route 83 and Grimm Road, improvements must be made to the new building's design and landscape plans. The village board voted unanimously this week to deny an annexation agreement, which would have allowed the auto body shop to relocate. Bodycraft wants to move to make way for future development along Route 173. The board told owners they could come back within 12 months with revised site plans.
