Streamwood man arrested on drug charges

A Streamwood man on parole for a drug conviction was accused of selling marijuana Monday in Elgin, police said.

Officers pulled a car over at 7 p.m. Monday because of items hanging from the rearview mirror, police said. They smelled marijuana coming from the car at Arlington Avenue and Bent Street, police said.

A search uncovered 20 small plastic bags containing a total of 9.45 ounces of marijuana and a digital scale, police said.

Antoine D. Lovelace, 29, of 828 Sumac Drive, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, police said.

Lovelace is on parole from a 2005 charge of manufacturing or delivering cocaine, officials said. He also spent time in prison for a 2000 robbery in Cook County, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office.

The Illinois Department of Corrections indicated Tuesday an additional warrant for Lovelace would be issued on a charge of parole violation.

Lovelace was held in the Kane County jail on $4,000 bond with a June 9 court date in Geneva.
