Briefs: Home improvement grants

Twenty-one Bensenville families will receive grants totaling almost $59,400 to help them maintaining their houses. The village board approved the funding. The village established the Home Improvement Grant Program earlier this year to assist residents with bringing their homes into code compliance. The program provides assistance for reinvestment in existing single-family, duplex and two-flat housing stock to revitalize neighborhoods, increase property values and make homes safer. Owners are eligible for a grant of up to $5,000. Village President John Geils said other homes are in the evaluation process for potential grants. Geils said Bensenville aims to certify a minimum of 200 homes this year and another 200 next year. For details, call (630) 594-1090.
