Voter ID idea makes sense

I disagree with David Orr and the ACLU about the people showing their drivers licenses to vote.

I am an election judge in Illinois, and we have not been able to ask anyone to show their drivers license or state I.D. to vote.

I have to believe a person who says his name and address without any identification.

I can only check the signature that is on our records to see if it matches the form that he signs in front of me. The signature on record could be from a long time ago if he has not changed his address.

It would be so much easier and faster for election judges and people waiting to vote if people would show their drivers license or state I.D.

The Illinois state I. D. is free for people 65 and older or disabled and $20 for people under 65.

I have had to show my drivers license or state I.D. to deposit cash in a credit union, cash a check at my bank, get on an airplane, open a CD, get a library card, join the Schaumburg Park District, apply for a Jewel and Dominick's card, use my charge card and rent a movie from Blockbuster.

Also, as a senior citizen, in order for me to get the RTA Smart Card, I had to show my drivers license.

Now, which is more important -- riding the Metra, Pace or CTA free or preventing voter fraud?
