Crystal Lake beaches preparing to open
With the weather turning warm, it's time to start thinking about summer fun.
Crystal Lake is home to two sandy public beaches where admission is free to park district residents.

The Crystal Lake Park District recently announced the beach schedule and operating information for the 2008 season.
West Beach, 2330 Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. Opens Saturday, May 24, and closes Sunday, Aug. 17. Beach hours are 9 a.m. to dusk daily; hours pertain only to weekends until school is out.
Main Beach 300 Lake Shore Drive, Crystal Lake. Opens Saturday, May 24, and closes Monday, Sept. 1. Beach hours are 9 a.m. to dusk daily, 3 p.m. until dusk when school is in session.
Daily admission
Resident and non resident fees: Admission is free for park district residents. Vehicles entering Main or West Park Beach must have a current vehicle sticker attached to the windshield or a daily fee will be charged. City of Crystal Lake, Village of Lakewood and the Park District stickers are accepted.
Nonresident daily fees to enter the beaches are: $10 for adults, age 16 and older; $6 for youth, ages 4 to 15; and free for ages 3 and younger. Parking is $5.
Guests of residents: A resident family can bring up to four nonresident guests into the beach at no charge. Each person over the limit will be charged a $4 entry fee.
Nonresident beach pass: The Crystal Lake Park District is now offering a nonresident beach pass, valid Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. A family pass is $200 (limit two passes), and an individual pass is $100. The passes are for beach use only and do not include the boat launch, program or special event privileges. The passes do not include entrance of guests. To obtain a nonresident beach pass, you must provide all the following documents, in person: a valid driver's license, current vehicle registration(s) and names of all family members residing at your address.
