Sale at Dundee Highlands will help family in need
A West Dundee school is sponsoring a fundraiser this weekend to help a local family that's had a tough year.
Dundee Highlands Elementary School is hosting a garage sale and bake sale tomorrow to benefit the Erpito family.
Jerry Erpito, the father of two students at Dundee Highlands, died of cancer in March.
The sale will include household items, books, toys, appliances, furniture and clothing.
The fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the gym at Dundee Highlands, 407 S. Fifth St., West Dundee.

School welcomes veteran: Another local school welcomed home an Iraq War veteran this week.
Mackeben Elementary School in Algonquin declared May 5 "Mary Paz Day," in honor of the school secretary who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.
Students decked out in the colors of the American flag recited the Pledge of Allegiance outside the school, and sang patriotic songs.
They also presented Paz with a banner signed by almost 800 students and staff at the school.
Last month, Hampshire Middle School welcomed Army Master Sgt. Bill Cavanagh home during his brief visit to the states.
It's good to see local students, teachers and principals are supporting military families in their time of need.
Learn about local history: Did you know May is Huntley Historic Preservation Month?
I didn't, until Barb Read at village hall e-mailed me about events celebrating the village's history this month.
The first, "Woodstock Street Stroll," takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Woodstock Street in downtown Huntley.
Actors dressed in period clothing will tell you about Woodstock Street's most distinguished residents as you walk past the homes where they once lived.
The event is sponsored by the Huntley Historical Preservation Commission.
