• Mary Murphy, a sophomore at Community High School District 94 in West Chicago, has been chosen to receive a Congress-Bundestag 2008 scholarship.

As one of 300 students from across the nation to be chosen for the honor, Murphy will study abroad as a guest of the German government for one year.

Murphy is a member of Delta Epsilon Phi, the national honor society for students of German; Key Club and International Club.

• Palatine resident Don Kronberg, president of Itasca-based NiteLite Promotions, has been nominated in the category of Promoter of the Year for the 43rd Academy of Country Music Awards, which will be presented May 18 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kronberg is one of five nominees which include other entertainment promoters nationwide.

Kronberg has been promoting concerts throughout the Midwest since the early 1990s for venues such as Joliet's Rialto Square Theatre, Waukegan's Genesee Theatre and Elgin's Hemmens Cultural Center.

• Malek Zoubi of Lombard was sworn in as the new College of DuPage student trustee April 24.

Zoubi was elected by his peers and will serve a one-year term on the board. He replaces outgoing student trustee Hope Whitten of Woodridge, who is transferring to the University of Texas-Dallas.
