Exhibit features original Narnia art

Wheaton College's Wade Center art exhibit, "Pauline Baynes: A Lifetime of Illustrations," runs through May 31 at the center, 351 E. Lincoln Ave., Wheaton. Baynes' exhibit includes original drawings for the book "Prince Caspian" from the Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis, as well as her paintings based on Psalm 8. Celebrate 240th birthday Saturday

A celebration of the 240th anniversary of Revolutionary War soldier Israel Warner's birth and a grave dedication will be at 3 p.m. May 31 at Big Woods Cemetery, Eola Road south of Butterfield Road, Aurora. Guest speaker is Lt. Col. John Amberg, director of the Midwest Branch of the Army's Public Relations. The ceremony includes Revolutionary War re-enactors and active servicemen. Free hearing test offered by phone

Local residents can check their hearing from the privacy of their own home by calling Dial-A-Hearing-Screening-Test. The service is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and is designed to promote better hearing health. DAHST is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time weekdays at (800) 222-EARS (3277). Calls should be made from a corded telephone in a quiet room. Callers also should have a pencil and paper available. Those not able to hear all of the tones may want to seek a more comprehensive hearing test.

Submit entries for festival by June 30

The After Hours Film Society's sixth annual Short Film and Video Festival for students will accept submissions through June 30.

Entries will be juried by film professionals and educators for creativity, originality, ambition and determination. Eligible entries must be 30 minutes or less and submitted on 1/2 inch VHS or DVD. Applicants must submit a completed and signed entry form, which is available online at www.afterhoursfilmsociety.com or by calling (630) 534-4528. Submissions, which must be accompanied by a $20 fee, should be mailed to: The After Hours Film Society, P.O. Box 3534, Glen Ellyn, IL 60138. Cash prizes will be awarded in October.

Local charity seeks car donations

Glen Ellyn-based Bridge Communities is seeking donations of cars to help homeless families in DuPage County transition to self-sufficiency. Cars will help clients commute to better paying jobs and to transport their children to school and child care. Donors will receive a tax deduction.
