Harper will hold college night

The annual College Night at Harper College, Euclid and Roselle Roads, Palatine, will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Harper College Wellness and Sport Center in Building M.

Harper's College Night will host representatives from more than 200 colleges and universities throughout the nation. More information is available at the College/Career offices any District 214 school, or by calling (847) 925-6000.

Relay For Life kickoff Sunday

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Inverness, kickoff celebration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Park Central, 3000 W. Central Road, Rolling Meadows. A brief event overview including topics such as being a team captain, luminaria, survivor information, silent auction, and creative fundraising ideas will be discussed. Refreshments will be served.

Relay For Life is an overnight event where teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and families raise funds -- prior to and at the event -- to fight cancer as well as designate at least one team member at a time to walk or run on a track throughout the night. This year's American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Inverness will be held from 6 p.m. June 13 until 6 a.m. June 14 at Palatine High School in Palatine.

Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, secure community support, coordinate logistics, obtain refreshments and prizes and plan entertainment activities. For details, contact the American Cancer Society at (847) 368-1166 or visit www.relayforlifeprmi.com.

Garden club offers two scholarships

The Arlington Heights Garden Club will award two $1,500 scholarships for students pursuing study in the fields of horticulture, botany, forestry, agriculture or environmental sciences. Other fields of interest will be considered if applicant demonstrates experience in the horticulture/floral/nursery community over the past year. Applicants must be residents of Arlington Heights or adjoining communities, have a C average, and be pursuing enrollment for the 2008-2009 school term in a vocational/ technical school, community college or university.

Scholarship applications are due on May 1, with recipients announced by June 1. Application information is available at local high school Career Center offices.
