Forest district revamps Web site
Long a presence on the Internet, the Lake County Forest Preserve District has launched a renovated Web site.
And in a move that's perfectly appropriate for such an environmentally minded organization, the color theme of the site -- www.lcfpd.org -- is green.
The Web site features new menu options, a site-wide search option and a slideshow of scenes from the county's many preserves.
The site also lets virtual visitors stay informed about forest-district events by offering subscriptions to a free news feed.
Other features include:
• A map showing all of the district's holdings and trails.
• Descriptions of all of the county's preserves, which are accompanied by trail maps and other useful information.
• Events calendars.
• Information about the district's picnic shelter rental program.
• Descriptions of restoration projects that are open public participation.
• Explanations of the forest district board and committee responsibilities, as well as biographies of board members.
• A database with photographs and information about the plants and animals living in Lake County.
• Tee-time information for the county's three golf courses, as well as maps and course specifications.
Forest district officials predict people will make more than 1 million visits to the Web site this year.
District statistics indicate some of the most popular features on the Web site have concerned the district's golf courses, the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville and the Lake County Discovery Museum near Wauconda.
