McHenry County Shrine Club notes

The McHenry County Shrine Club will offer a free orthopedic care clinic for children ages 18 and younger from 10 a.m. to noon May 17 at the Adult & Child Rehab Center, 708 Washington St., Woodstock.

Physicians will check children for orthopedic bone and muscular issues, excluding the head and chest.

The Shriners Hospitals also treat cerebral palsy, scoliosis, osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), spina bifida, residuals of polio, dwarfism, juvenile arthritis, spinal trauma, spinal cord injuries, congenital anomalies (missing limbs, club fee, webbed hands, etc.), limb deficiencies and growth problems.

Shriners Hospitals also perform plastic surgery for burn victims and repairs cleft palates. The hospital does not perform plastic surgery and acute cases are accepted only after they have been stabilized.

A parent or legal guardian must be present at the clinic. A birth certificate and inoculation records are required. If the child's parents are divorced, a copy of the divorce decree also is needed.

The clinic is free to all children and, if accepted as a patient of the Shriners Hospital, there is no cost for the treatment or hospitalization.
