This is no ordinary company car

NORTHBROOK -- Allstate Corp.'s departing chairman, Edward Liddy, was given the use of a 1953 collectible car called the Allstate Coupe as part of his separation agreement with the company. Liddy, the former chief executive officer, will be able to drive the red car five months out of the year for five years, the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Friday. The car was sold exclusively through Sears department stores, said Rich Halberg, an Allstate spokesman. The insurer owns two of the cars, paying about $12,000 at an auction in 2006 to purchase the one designated for Liddy, Halberg said. "It's currently only kind-of running," said Halberg. The company will work to bring the car to working order, he said. The second Allstate Coupe is in a museum at the company's Northbrook headquarters.
