Three Fires Council honors its own Citizen of the Year

Sam K. Reed, chairman and CEO of Treehouse Foods Inc. in Westchester, recently was honored as the Three Fires Council, BSA 2007 Distinguished Citizen of the Year at the Drury Lane, Oakbrook Terrace.

The Three Fires Council recognized Reed for his dedication to community service and the welfare and development of its youth.

The annual event raised more than $100,000, and the proceeds will ensure more youth from the local area receive the benefits of the Scouting program and the associate program, Learning for Life, the co-educational career awareness program provided in collaboration with local schools and businesses.

The funds from this event also will help provide financial assistance for at-risk youth, curriculum material for special-needs classrooms and camp scholarships to attend the Three Fires Council camp programs.

Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America, serves more than 35,000 youth in the counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall, DeKalb and parts of Will and Cook counties.

The Boy Scouts of America is a nationally recognized youth organization offering programs of character development and value-based leadership training. Its mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
