For the 12th consecutive year, the Arbor Day Foundation has named Algonquin a Tree City USA community, a national honor that recognizes elected officials, village staff and residents for planting and taking care of trees. To qualify, a town must possess a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and must also observe Arbor Day. The Arbor Day Foundation, in conjunction with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, support the Tree City USA program.
