Mom, daughter plead guilty in identity theft of elderly couple

A mother and daughter from Schaumburg pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges they stole the financial information of an elderly Lincolnshire couple and used it to obtain credit.

Lake County Circuit Judge Victoria Rossetti placed Geraldine Lopez, 49, and Kristen Glasper, 29, both of 1925 Hastings Court, on probation after accepting their pleas.

Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said Lopez worked as a caretaker for the couple, both of whom are confined to wheelchairs, since 2005.

Lopez took the man's Social Security number and used it to obtain a credit card and to obtain a $10,000 student loan for Glasper.

The couple called police after being notified of unusual activity in their credit accounts, and the two women paid back all the money they had obtained through the scheme.

Both were charged with aggravated identity theft and faced up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Lopez pleaded guilty to that offense and was sentenced to four years on probation and six months on electronic home monitoring.

Glasper pleaded guilty to computer fraud and was sentenced to two years on probation.

Both were fined $500 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.
