Wheaton cops search for armed robber

A masked man armed with a baseball bat who robbed a Wheaton gas station was still at large Thursday.

The robbery happened 11:30 p.m. Wednesday inside the Marathon fuel station at 1910 E. Roosevelt Road, according to Wheaton police.

A lone suspect entered the station carrying the bat and demanded money. He then pushed the store clerk away from the cash register and stole about $125, police said.

The clerk was not injured. The robber fled from the gas station on foot.

Wheaton police searched the area without finding the robber. The department does not have its own canine unit, so Elmhurst police also responded to the scene with its canine unit.

Police describe the suspect as being 18 to 20 years old and standing about 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He was wearing a mask with a black jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact Investigative Division Cmdr. Joseph Eversole at (630) 260-2161.
