Sidewalk construction

Construction on Emerson Street in downtown Mount Prospect continued last week as road crews poured cement for new sidewalks and curbs.

The project stretches along Emerson from Central Road to Northwest Highway. A similar project on Busse Avenue from Maple Street to Route 83 also is in the works.

Together, both projects cost $650,000, said Glen Andler, director of public works.

The main focus of the Emerson Street project is construction of new sidewalks and curbs, but also to check water mains and electrical lines, said Maura El Metennani, the village's public information officer.

New benches and light poles will be added as well, Andler said.

It's expected the project will wrap up before June 21, El Metennani said.

Part of the street is open to local traffic, she said, but there's expected to be temporary road closures along parts of the street at some points during the project.
