Bring balance to the home with BPD

The class In Balance Organizing will show participants how to straighten up the home, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bartlett Park District's Community Center, 700 S. Bartlett Road.

Learn how to find what's needed and eliminate what isn't. The class will cover methods to help manage time, getting more done with less stress. Participants are encouraged to bring photos of challenging areas for suggestions.

PTO candle sale wraps up Thursday

The PTO of Spring Wood Middle School in Hanover Park is hosting a candle sale through Thursday as a fundraiser for the school. Money raised will be used for such items as school materials and to cover costs of field trips for needy students.

Schoolchildren and the PTO are selling Gold Canyon candles in glass jars with lids. There are various scents and three sizes; prices range from $14.50 to $22. The sale goes on through Aug. 10.

Free formalwear for teens offered

Schaumburg Township's Spectrum Youth and Family Services and the Vogelei Teen Center will host a Prom Formalwear Gala for teens from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday.

Items at the gala will include gently used and new prom dresses, shoes, jewelry, evening bags, men's slacks, shirts, ties, shoes, etc. These items will be free to teens, and there will also be a raffle to win more free prizes.

Teens do not necessarily have to be going to prom this year; they can come and get formalwear for any special occasion.

The event will be held at Spectrum Youth and Family Service's gymnasium in Schaumburg Township Hall, 1 Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates. Transportation will be provided for teens who want to meet at Vogelei promptly at 3:45 p.m.

Firefighters host 'tax blues' dance

The Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual "Dance Away Your Income Tax Blues" party from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bartlett Fire Barn, 218 Main St.

One winner will go home with $5,000. Tickets are $50. For more information, call (630) 837-5861.
