Carmel captures Shootout finale

Carmel's girls basketball team built a 17-point lead after three quarters and then held off the host Mustangs in the final game of the Mundelein Turkey Shootout on Wednesday night.

Tiffany Hendrickson and Erin Glogovsky scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, for Carmel, which finished 4-1 in the tournament, winning its last three games.

Mundelein also finished 4-1. J.J. Sawchuk paced the Mustangs with 17 points. Toni Knar had 8 for Mundelein, which trailed 12-7 after one quarter, 24-14 at halftime and 37-20 after three.

Glenbrook N. 40, RM 28: At Mundelein, Amanda Wallis and Natasha Poulopoulos each had 8 points for the Spartans (3-2).

Rolling Meadows (2-3) was led in scoring by Alexa Bennett with 8 points.

Grayslake North 51, PR 37: At Mundelein, the Knights matched their win total of last season.

Sophomore Lauren Erikson scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter for Grayslake North (3-2, 3-2). She sank two 3-pointers and also grabbed 4 rebounds.

Alex Lowry added 9 points for the Knights. Elizabeth Phillips contributed 5 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds.

Anna Patras had 9 points to lead Prairie Ridge (2-3, 2-3).

Vernon Hills 71, Lakes 35: At Mundelein, Amy Burton scored a game-high 14 points, as the Cougars concluded the tournament with their second win.

Vernon Hills (2-3, 2-3) also received 11 points from Jessica Feece. Kelly Nagle scored 9 points in her season debut, after missing the Cougars' first four games while recovering from knee surgery. Brianna Skeens also had 9 points.

Lakes (0-5, 0-5) was led in scoring by Mandy Schellinger with 8.
