Dog rescued from fire

One person was treated for smoke inhalation after rescuing a dog from a Vernon Hills fire that left a house uninhabitable. Countryside Fire Protection District officials responded to the fire on the 200 block of Baltimore Drive at 12:13 p.m. Monday after two passers-by called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the house. One of the people ran into the house and rescued the dog before firefighters arrived. That person was treated for smoke inhalation at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. No one was home at the time of the fire, which was caused by a lightning strike, fire officials said. The damage estimate was around $185,000. Libertyville, Mundelein, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Knollwood fire departments assisted Countryside.
