Battle ends over Hoffman TIF district

The four-year legal battle over the Hoffman Plaza TIF district has been settled. The Hoffman Estates village board Monday adopted a resolution with Chicago Title Land Trust Co. agreeing not to condemn any of the properties within the TIF district between Golf and Higgins roads east of Roselle Road. The agreement comes on the condition that the current property owners follow a redevelopment plan. A lawsuit was filed in 2004 in Cook County challenging the validity of the TIF district that was established in 2003. Officials from one of the tenants, the Jewel-Osco at 1069 N. Roselle Road, said in December that the store would be undergoing major renovations later this year. Village officials said $5.5 million would go toward improvements at the Jewel, while the entire strip mall would be renovated by December. In the settlement, both the village and Chicago Title also agreed to cooperate in future improvements within the district. A typical TIF district lasts 23 years.
