Rent a garden plot in Hoffman Estates

Hoffman Estates residents can get their own plot in the community garden. Residents may rent a plot for $25, plus a $5 deposit. The deposit is refunded after the water key is returned at the end of the season.

Payments must be made within 10 business days of receiving a confirmation letter, or the plot will be rented to someone else.

Spring Into Spring with Shelter Inc.

The Shelter Inc. Auxiliary and Chicago Botanic Gardens invite all gardeners to attend "Spring Into Spring With The Shelter Inc. Auxiliary and the Chicago Botanic Garden," held at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The demonstration and hands-on workshop will be led by professionals at the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake-Cook Road, Glencoe. Guests will enjoy a continental breakfast while receiving instruction in the art of gardening. After the workshop, attendees can walk among 385 acres of woods, waterways, 23 formal gardens and three natural areas.

The $65 admission includes parking, continental breakfast, instruction and supplies. All proceeds benefit Shelter's programs for abused and neglected children and first-time parents. For information, call (847) 590-6188, ext. 22, or visit shelter-inc.org.
