Grayslake Central 4, Grayslake North 0

When Grayslake Central's girls soccer team scores, it wins.

In fact, after beating visiting Grayslake North 4-0 in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division action Tuesday night, the Rams are 9-0 in games in which they've scored.

Grayslake Central (9-6, 5-2) also netted a season sweep of its District 127 rival.

Erin Fitzsimmons scored a pair of goals, including the game's first in the 16th minute. Melissa Kuehl head-flicked the ball to Fitzsimmons, who broke loose on a breakaway from about 40 yards out and beat Knights keeper Ashleigh Wonsil.

"It was a great pass from my teammate," said Fitzsimmons, who doubled her goal output on the season. "It was my first breakaway. I was afraid of kicking the ball right to her."

The Rams led only 1-0 at the break but then scored three goals in a four-minute span in the second half.

"When they play North, they get up for the game," Grayslake Central coach Mike McCaulou said of his players. "We were attacking and attacking. We just didn't knock the ball negative to create that space in the final third.

"We dominated every aspect of the game in the first half. We just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net and that's been our problem all year."

Stephanie Swearingen made it 2-0 in the 54th minute, scoring on a shot into the corner of the net. Fitzsimmons added her second goal two minutes later from a Megan LeBaron cross.

LeBaron added the final tally on an assist from Meaghan Daly.

Rams keepers Kathryn Dickson and Maggie Klees combined for the shutout in goal.

Grayslake North lost key defenders Chloe Basa and Sara Wimmer in the second half with injuries.

"They're rocks back there for us," said Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe, whose team fell to 1-12, 0-5. "Early on, we had the right lineup and had kids right where we wanted them to be. We were performing and possessing the ball while getting things started. I think we're moving in the right direction, but our experienced players keep getting injured and it's a struggle for us."

Grayslake Central still has a shot of winning the FVC Fox. The Rams play division leader Huntley, Prairie Ridge and Crystal Lake Central. Huntley is 7-0

"We're hungry for it," McCaulou said. "We need Huntley to lose one, but we need to win out."
