The Kane County Bar Association's "Ask A Lawyer Day" will be held today. As part if its 150th anniversary, the association is holding this event on the second Saturday of each month. Sheriff warns of scam
The DuPage County sheriff's office is warning residents of a telemarketing scam in which the caller names the Illinois Sheriffs' Association in seeking contributions. Authorities said the organization doesn't participate in phone solicitations. The caller, who might be in Florida, requests $20 to $40 donations. To avoid being scammed, the sheriff said to ask for the name, address and phone number of the group and its telemarketing firm and insist on getting everything in writing before making a pledge. If you cannot get those answers, hang up.
Earth Day pickup
The West Chicago Lions Club will help organize an Earth Day collection of unwanted computer equipment, household clothes and shoes, eyeglasses and hearing aids from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 19 at 1750 Harvester Drive. Judson prayer breakfast
Judson University will host its 20th annual Golden Corridor Community Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. May 6, in the university's Lindner Fitness Center, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. Eric Metaxas, the author of "Amazing Grace: William WIlberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery," is the keynote speaker. Metaxas will describe how Wilberforce's faith brought about a "reformation of manners" transformed both England and western countries. The program will also include the presentation of Judson's D. Art wanted for exhibit
The Aurora Public Art Commission is seeking works for an exhibit, "Lost and Found: The Art of Making Art After an Extended Interlude." Artists who have stopped making art for a time and resumed creating their work are invited to submit two- and three-dimensional pieces. The exhibit will go on display next year. Entry deadline is Sept. 26. Artists should send a CD with images of four to 10 recent works including dates, resume, address, phone number, e-mail address, artist's statement and Web site/online gallery if applicable to Aurora Public Art Commission, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60507. Artists who want the packet returned should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
