Get on board for historic tour

The Dundee Township Historical Society will present its annual historic bus tour April 20. Tours begin at 1 and 2:30 p.m. at the museum, 426 Highland in West Dundee.

After a brief presentation guests will board the bus to take a "Magical History Tour" through the township. The bus will stop at designated locations for costumed interpreters to tell stories in the first person. The theme of the tour is "The Streetcar Named Dundee."

Who were the countless people who road the streetcar in those early days and where were they going? When and why did the streetcar stop carrying passengers up and down the valley?

Join historical society members as they tell their stories.

Tickets will be available at Family Pride Cleaners, 537 S. 8th St., West Dundee and at the museum the day of the event. A $5 donation is requested. For information, call the museum at (847) 428-6996.

Ikes, Boy Scouts host annual dinner

The Elgin Chapter Izaak Walton League and Boy Scout Troop 10 invite the public to their annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 330 Griswold, Elgin. Dinner will include spaghetti with meat or marinara sauce, garlic bread, salad and dessert.

Cost for a family of four is $20, individual is $6, seniors age 60 and older are $5 and children under 3 are free. Proceeds will be used for conservation and scouting projects.

Here's how to enter snapshot contest

Our Snapshots Contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages in Kane and McHenry counties.

Photos will be judged by our staff photographers who will select three winners for publication each week. Once a month, a grand-prize winner will be chosen.

To enter, send your photos in a digital JPEG format, sized at two megabytes if possible (minimum size 300 dpi), to foxcontest@dailyherald.com. Put "photo contest" in the subject line. Include your name, phone number and address. Please also include information about where the photo was taken and who or what was in the picture.

Photos received by 5 p.m. on Mondays will be considered for Saturday publication. Only one photo a week per photographer, but you can enter as many weeks as you'd like.
