No logic behind need for gay groups
What if some sexually promiscuous high school students wanted to either form a school-sponsored group to promote the acceptance of the promiscuous lifestyle, or, "better" yet, wanted to have a whole new high school dedicated to engendering acceptance of promiscuity? And what if the reasons they cited regarding the "need" for either the group or the new school were: 1) promiscuity occurs naturally in the animal kingdom; 2) anti-promiscuity "bigots" call promiscuous students names (e.g., "slut"); and 3) because of the name-calling some promiscuous students had low self-esteem and were depressed?
I believe most people would reasonably conclude that no sufficient case can be made for a student pro-promiscuity group or school. Yet, when similar propaganda is used to try to justify high school "gay/straight" groups or, as some have proposed, high schools dedicated to promoting the acceptance of homosexual activity, many people naively fall for that irrational propaganda. (See "Chicago district delays vote on establishing anti-bullying high school," Nov. 19.)
No logical case can be made for school-sponsored "gay/straight" groups or schools devoted to the acceptance of homosexual activity, just like no logical case can be made for the homosexual lifestyle itself. But some people do not let logic get in the way of trying to impose their liberal prejudices on others.
