Briefs: DUI prosecutor honored
Kane County prosecutor Steve Sims was recently honored for his efforts to curb drunken driving. On Nov. 2, Sims received the Outstanding State's Attorney Award from the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists. Sims supervises the traffic and DUI divisions of the Kane County State's Attorney's Office and is deputy chief of the criminal division. In addition to prosecuting numerous impaired driving cases, Sims serves on state and local DUI advisory panels and has been involved in several related programs, including AAIM's Drunkbusters and Kane County's No Refusal Weekend.
Martial arts helps hungry:
Kim's Black Belt Academy will present safety seminars starting at 3 p.m. today at the academy, 33W624 Roosevelt Road, West Chicago. A youth seminar for ages 5 and older will run from 3 to 4 p.m. and will provide simple hands-on techniques aimed at building confidence and developing coordination. The adult seminar will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and will address both home safety and personal safety. The seminars are free, but participants should bring three canned food items per person for admission to benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank in St. Charles.
