Gearing Up for Hiking
The call of the chorus frogs and the emergence of the red-winged blackbird are sure signs that spring has arrived. For those excited about venturing outdoors, hiking is a wonderful way to enjoy all the sights and sounds of spring.
Beginner and experienced hikers are invited to Gearing Up for Hiking from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake.
In this interactive program, participants will be given an overview of everything they need to get ready for a great hiking season. REI will bring samples of hiking gear, explain how GPS units work and discuss other hiking essentials.
Participants will also learn more about MCCD's Century Hikers Club, a program that encourages and rewards hikers to enjoy the 40 miles of trails the Conservation District has to offer.
This program is free to the public, and designed for adult audiences. Registration is required; register online at www.MCCDistrict.org or by calling Prairieview Education Center at (815) 479-5779.
