Cary man charged after teen says he molested her in 2003
Authorities charged a 31-year-old Cary man this week after a teenage girl came forward with allegations he sexually molested her about five years ago.
Miguel Lazaro of 338 N. First St. faces one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse stemming from claims from a then 10-year-old accuser, according to the criminal complaint filed against him this week.
Cary police arrested Lazaro and transferred him to the McHenry County jail. He appeared in court on the charge Thursday morning and later went free after posting an $8,000 bond.
The allegations surfaced in late February when the girl, now a high school student, reported the allegation to a school official, Cary police Detective Sgt. Ed Synek said. The official reported the accusation first to police in McHenry, where the girl goes to school, who then forwarded it to Cary investigators.
"It's not uncommon in these kinds of cases that the victim doesn't come forward right away," Synek said.
Lazaro, who could face up to seven years in prison if found guilty, is scheduled to return to court Tuesday. Synek said authorities continue to review evidence and more charges are possible.
