Make bracelets at Vernon library

Mothers and daughters can celebrate Mother's Day a bit early by attending a crafts program May 6 at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire.

Moms and their girls will be invited to make beaded bracelets, with supplies and instruction from a Long Grove business called Bead Soup. The event will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the library, 300 Olde Half Day Road.

Registration is required. Daughters should be in the sixth grade or older.

Antioch woman's club holds dinner

The Antioch Jr. Woman's Club will be holding its closing dinner and installation of the 2008-09 officers at 7 p.m. May 13 at Elements Restaurant in Antioch.

During the 2007-08 club year, the Junior Woman's Club held their annual Comedy Night fundraiser and will donate funds to many local charities, as well as to the Tim Osmond Sports Complex and Open Arms Mission.

Grant received for Grayslake market

Grayslake Farmers Market recently received a $4,700 grant from a state organization.

Officials said the $4,700 came from the Illinois Farmers Market Advertising Grant Program, in part as a result of 15 support letters that were sent from Grayslake businesses. The grant money is to be used to increase awareness of the Grayslake Farmers Market to surrounding communities.

Billed as Lake County's oldest and largest evening market, the weekly Grayslake event kicks off June 11. It'll be open from 3 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday through Oct. 1 around Center and Slusser streets in downtown Grayslake.

Pitch, hit and run contest set in May

The Vernon Hills Park District is holding a pitch, hit and run competition at 2 p.m. May 18 at the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex.

This free baseball skills competition is for children ages 7 to 14. Participants will compete in pitching, hitting and running.

There are four age groups, with boys and girls competing together. All participants must bring their own equipment.

Registration deadline is May 16 at the Sullivan Community Center on Aspen Drive south of Route 60. A copy of a valid birth certificate or baptismal record is required.
