Pets perish in Port Barrington blaze

A dog and a cat were killed in a house fire Friday evening at 12 N. Circle Ave. in Port Barrington, Wauconda firefighters said. No other injuries were reported. Firefighters responded to the scene around 5:56 p.m. and amid heavy smoke put out the fire in 15 to 20 minutes. The residents of the house were not home at the time. The fire was mostly contained to a bedroom, causing more than $50,000 in damage, firefighters estimated. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Firefighters from Lake Zurich, Fox Lake, Cary and Nunda Township helped fight the blaze.
