Postcard art travels to Greenbelt center

Winning works of art, all the size of a postcard, can be viewed starting today at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago.

The Postcard Art Competition and Exhibition runs through May 25 at Greenbelt, off the east side of Green Bay Road, between 10th and 14th streets and south of Belvidere Road.

More than 500 submissions were received from across the United States and Canada, and 36 finalists are now displayed. These postcards feature a range of media including photography, tapestry and oil paintings and feature a variety of subjects.

The top 12 award winners each received a cash award and printed copies of the postcard made from their design. Twenty-four merit award winners also are included in the exhibition.

The original artworks are available for purchase as noted. Postcard sets made from the 12 winning images are available for $8.50 per set at the Greenbelt Cultural Center or the Lake County Discovery Museum gift shop.

Held every other year, the postcard art exhibition helps bring attention to the Curt Teich Postcard Archives. The nation's most significant publicly-held collection of postcards and related materials is held by the Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda.
